"A journey of a thousand miles begins with one step." - Lao Tzu
We drove from Pendleton, Oregon, today, arriving in Anacortes, Washington, a little after 2pm. It rained a good portion of the drive. But by the time I finally dug the necessary items out of the car and had myself and the bike ready to roll, it was about 3:30pm. We took a couple "west-coast start" pictures and I was rolling. I completed the first 27.9 miles on mostly dry-roads and under mostly-dry skies from Anacortes to Sedro-Woolley, which is where we're spending the night. Since my official start wasn't scheduled until tomorrow, I'm now ever so slightly ahead of schedule.
The beach at Washington Park, Anacortes, Washington.
I started from Washington Park instead of the Anacortes Ferry Terminal because it had a beach where I could get down to the water. Everything at the Ferry Terminal was locked off for security reasons.
The beautiful sunset was a good end to a successful first day.
The part you forgot was that you arrived in Anacortes already out of breath because the sparks were flying in the hotel room the night before…not in the way people might think.
ReplyDeleteThere was a loud pop and suddenly sparks shot out of the main light switch and turned off the lights over the bed and threw the breaker - in the parking garage. Before that was the malfunctioning smoke detector - patched up with new batteries from the front desk.
Either the motel got a great deal when they hired the high school So You Want to be an Electrician class do the wiring for the recent remodel or someone was trying to kill us.
Yay for Craig! Love his updates! And I knew it was your color commentary that would be great to read, too, Lailla! ❤️
DeleteSafe travels! Can’t wait to follow along in your journey! Off to an electrifying start it seems!
ReplyDeleteWow! A lot of entertainment to start the journey! Be safe my friends.
ReplyDeleteHi Craig,
ReplyDeleteI love reading your posts. It is a great adventure! How has the temperature been. In the 90+ on the front range and through the mid states. Love your comments on nutrition. As I was told once by a nutritionist, on a ride like this, let the body tell you what to eat.
One thought: Include a "The Good", "The Bad" and "The Ugly" for each day. You don't need to necessarily have all three in that a day of all Good is one of the best.
