Brian T. commented yesterday, "Very curious on your nutritional approach." Hah! Nutritionists will be appalled at my approach. I'll get to that in a minute.
But first, we stopped in Pendleton, Oregon, for the night. We have about 5-1/2 hours of driving tomorrow and if we get to Anacortes early enough, I'll probably start my ride tomorrow afternoon by knocking off the first 20 or 30 miles.
We went out for dinner to the Rainbow Cafe, which is Oregon's Oldest Bar (circa 1883). The decor is a mix of Irish Pub and Western Frontier, with a few posters for the Pendleton Round Up, a large rodeo in September. There was plenty of rodeo memorabilia as well.
Now, about the question of nutrition. My dinner was probably fairly typical of what I'll eat after a day of cycling: a French dip sandwich, fries, and my favorite sports drink: a beer. During the day, I'll usually carry one bottle of water and one bottle of Gatorade (traditional lemon-lime from powder) and refills will all be water. I'll also carry at least a couple kinds of bars each day for snacks. I have blueberry and raspberry fig bars, nut-and-dark-chocolate bars, Nonni's ThinAddictives, oat bars, and mountain trail mix (nuts, raisins, and M&Ms). I'm also a fan of fresh and dried fruit and I'll be consuming plenty of that as well.
