Major Change of Scenery
Well, that changed abruptly. I went from mountains yesterday very much to the plains today. There are lots of wheat fields, some alfalfa hay fields, and some grazing fields. Tomorrow I will probably get close to Great Falls, but I'm quite tired after an 85-mile effort today with temps getting into the 90s this afternoon. Let's just get to some pictures and call it good for today.
This picturesque farm was in a little valley not far from where I started today's ride. The Rockies are still visible and didn't feel that far off.
The Montana Wheat Growers silos and railroad siding was representative of the area.
Silos in the field.
Silos at the farm home base.
It's hard to come through this part of Montana and not see lots of references to the Lewis and Clark expedition:
This is the monument referenced in the previous picture. This was maximum zoom on my smartphone.
Another Lewis & Clark interpretive roadside display.
Finally, this is my favorite picture of the day. This is Montana State Highway 358 at 2:30pm. I walked out to the center of the highway with my bike and stood on the yellow line to take this picture. That's at least a three-mile view back the direction I had just ridden. Not a car in sight.
Love the picture of the road without a car in sight - a cyclist's dream! I can't believe the miles you travel daily, even through the mountains. You've maintained your riding stamina that I saw during Ride the Rockies. There were times when you really must have held back to ride with me - thank you!
