A Wet Day

Today was forecast to be rainy in the afternoon. So I started a touch earlier than normal in the morning and tried to hammer out as many miles as I could before the rain started. I never really encountered any rain, but I managed to find numerous wet roads just after a rainstorm has passed through. So my "backside" ended up quite wet from road spray for much of the day. But the rain held off and I racked up 97.7 miles. I'm going to let the pictures tell the story.

Yesterday, I posted one picture of a tree starting to turn orange. Today, I came across many more trees showing their fall colors. I think it's the maple trees that are turning colors already.

I rode for many miles through the Chequamegon-Nicolet National Forest.

The town of Glidden is the "Black Bear Capital of the World."

And the Glidden-ites have put their natural resources to the best possible use, though I'm not sure I'd want to be an employee who has to do the collection duties. It seems like hazardous duty pay would be in order.

Next up was Mercer, the "Loon Capital."

Wet roads and a tinge of fall colors near Mercer.

Lilypads and more fall colors near Mercer.

A homeowner with a sense of humor. "Lunatic Fringe" by Tom Cochrane is a throwback to my high school days. It's a cool song.

Finally, a couple pictures of the rec path that closed out my day. It was an absolutely beautiful path between Manitowish Waters and Boulder Jumction, but it definitely was NOT a rails-to-trails conversion. It was very "loopy" with lots of twists and turns and small hills and valleys. As a long-distance rider trying to rack up the miles, it wasn't the best choice, but I still enjoyed it.

Tomorrow is supposed to be another rainy day. We'll see what kind of mileage I can log without getting too wet.
