Rest Day #4

Today was my fourth rest day of this adventure. We're staying in an AirBnB "cabin" in Minneapolis. It's an old house that was probably in the country when it was built in the 1920s, but it's now definitely in the city. We spent a portion of the day doing chores and running errands.

We did manage to pop out to the Mall of America for a couple of hours to check it out. There were the usual mall stores like Nordstrom Rack, Old Navy, Claire's, Sox Appeal, Aeropostale, LL Bean, Eddie Bauer, Victoria's Secret, and so on. There were also a bunch of restaurants, both typical fast food options plus full-service sit-down places like Margaritaville, Rainforest Cafe, and Bubba Gump's Shrimp Company. I won't bore you with pictures of those "normal" stores and restaurants. Of course, I'm going to focus on the unique!

First, there's an amusement park inside the Mall:
Lailla checking out the amusement park. There were some decent-looking thrill rides for pre-teens. There were party rental areas where you could have a kid's birthday party. It was cool.

I know Minneapolis has a fairly large Muslim population. So I shouldn't have been surprised to see a clothing store catering to Muslim women:
Right next door was the men's version of the same store.

One of my two favorite stores in the mall was the LEGO store:

I never went into the actual store. I just thought the huge, three-story display above the store was super impressive.

My other favorite store in the mall was the Crayola Store:

The Pick Your Pack wall was neat. You could pick a tin size of your choosing and then fill it with whatever colors of crayons or markers you wanted to purchase. The name and year it came into being was listed for each color:

There was also a Crayola Experience section. You had to pay to enter—and it wasn't cheap—but it looked like there were all kinds of activities that kids and adults could participate in. I believe there was also a play zone and maybe even performances of some sort:

So I guess I'm just a kid at heart since my two favorite stores were LEGO and Crayola!

Tomorrow is another rest day and I think we're going to take the light rail into downtown.

  2. The Crayola store looks similar to the M&M store in Times Square. Lots of colors and a wall where you can customize your purchase choices. MMS taste better thoπŸ˜‰

  3. Mall of America is pretty cool. I remember visiting there in the early 2000s on a hockey tournament trip. Lego store was my favorite!
